A bathroom remodel touches eight or nine trades and most failures happen at the seams between them. OnCall carries the whole project as general contractor, with permitted plumbing and electrical performed by licensed trade partners.

What a bathroom remodel actually involves

In rough order: demolition, framing changes, plumbing rough in, electrical rough in, waterproofing, tile, drywall, paint, trim, fixtures and the punch list. Nine stages, and the ones nobody sees are the ones that decide whether you are calling somebody in three years.

Waterproofing is the clearest example. It is invisible the moment tile goes on, it costs a small fraction of the project, and getting it wrong is how a shower ends up in the ceiling below. It is also the step that gets compressed when a job is behind, which is a good reason to hire someone who is not juggling four other bathrooms.

Why one contractor rather than a tile guy and a plumber

Because the seams are where the trouble is. The shower pan and the tile that sits on it are two trades and one waterproof system. When those are separate hires, the tile setter inherits somebody else's pan and nobody owns the outcome. When one contractor carries it, the same company answers for both, which is a shorter conversation for you and a better installation.

Cory Lee started in the trades in 2008. Eighteen years across remodeling and new construction, insurance restoration for water and fire damage, home inspection, and warranty management for a production builder. That last one is the least glamorous and probably the most useful: warranty work is years spent on other people's mistakes, which is a fast education in which details fail and why.

How it gets priced

On site. Cory measures, works through the design decisions with you, and sends a written itemized bid. The number covers the scope in the document, and changes to the scope are priced before they happen rather than appearing at the end.

Work that needs a permit is performed by licensed electrical, plumbing and HVAC trade partners. OnCall coordinates it as the general contractor so you are dealing with one company rather than three.

Decisions worth making early

  • Whether the plumbing is moving, which is the single biggest lever on cost
  • Tile choice, and whether the shower gets a niche, a bench or both
  • Vanity size and whether it is a single or a double
  • Lighting layout, which is cheap to change on paper and expensive to change in drywall
  • Where the flooring meets the hallway

None of that has to be settled before the walkthrough. Measurements do not change.

Related work: basement finishing, drywall repair and texture matching, and handyman fixture work if what you actually need is a faucet and a toilet rather than a remodel.

Questions we get asked

Can I use my own tile?

Yes. Bring the selection to the walkthrough and it goes into the bid.

Will I lose the bathroom for the whole project?

Yes, for the working stage. Cory will give you the real date range at the walkthrough so you can plan around it.

Do you move plumbing?

Yes, coordinated with licensed plumbing partners. Moving plumbing is the biggest single lever on a bathroom budget, so it is worth deciding early.

Is waterproofing included?

Always. It is not an upgrade line and it is not optional.
