A concrete patio in central Indiana lives or dies on base preparation, thickness and sealing, because freeze and thaw cycles are what break surfaces here. OnCall builds stamped and stained patios and also seals existing concrete as a standalone service.

Freeze and thaw is the whole problem

Water enters the surface of a slab, freezes, expands, and lifts the top layer away from what is underneath. Repeat that forty times a winter and you get the pitted, flaking patio you can see on houses all over central Indiana. Almost every concrete failure in this climate traces back to it.

The defenses are unglamorous and they all happen before anyone sees the finish: a properly prepared and compacted base so the slab is supported evenly, adequate thickness, correct placement conditions, and sealing on a cycle afterwards. A beautiful stamp over a poor base is a countdown.

Stamped and stained

Stamped concrete takes its pattern while the slab is still workable. There is one window to get it right and no second attempt, which is the honest argument for caring who is holding the tools. Staining is applied to cured concrete and works on an existing slab as well as a new pour, so it is a genuine option for a patio you already have.

Both hold up better through Indiana winters than a paver field, because there are no joints for water and weeds to work into, and both need re-sealing on a cycle to keep their color.

Sealing existing concrete

This is a standalone service and it is frequently the right answer. A patio that is structurally sound but looking dull and porous usually needs cleaning and sealing, not replacement. It is worth having someone say that out loud before you accept a quote for a tear out.

What else usually comes with it

Patios rarely get built alone. A sitting wall gives the space an edge and doubles as seating, a fire pit gives it a reason to exist in October, and a pergola makes it usable in August. Grouping them into one project means the excavation and the concrete work happen once instead of three times.

How it is quoted

On site, always. Grade, drainage, equipment access and where downspouts discharge all change the number and none of them show up in a photograph. Cory measures, specifies the base and thickness the site needs, and sends a written itemized bid.

OnCall runs four categories and turns down anything outside them. No car chargers, no full kitchen remodels, no pools. That is a deliberate decision about margin and risk, and it is the reason the work inside those four categories is good. There is a vendor list for the rest, offered once you have a reason to trust the recommendation.

Questions we get asked

Can you stain a patio I already have?

Yes. Staining works on cured concrete, so an existing slab in sound condition is a candidate.

How often does sealing need redoing?

On a cycle rather than once. Cory will tell you what your slab and its exposure actually need instead of quoting a generic interval.

Do you do pool decks?

No pools. Concrete near an existing pool is a conversation for the walkthrough.

Is stamped concrete slippery?

Finish and sealer choice both affect it, and it is worth raising if the patio is near water or on a slope.
