OnCall builds wood decks including stairs and railings. What decides how a deck ages is the framing, the fasteners, the flashing at the ledger and the drainage underneath.

The ledger is the thing

The connection where a deck meets the house is the most common serious failure on residential decks nationally. It is invisible the moment the boards go down, and it is entirely a question of how carefully it was flashed and fastened on the day.

Footings below the frost line

In central Indiana that is not optional, and it is one of the things a cheap quote quietly leaves out. Ask anybody bidding your deck how deep the footings go.

Fasteners, drainage and the boards themselves

Fastener choice is not a detail. The wrong fastener in treated lumber corrodes, stains the boards around it and loosens, and it does all of that from inside the joint where nobody can see it happening.

Board spacing and the slope of the framing decide where water goes. A deck that holds water at the ledger or between tight boards is a deck that rots from the parts you cannot inspect.

How wood decks gets quoted

Cory walks the space, works through the design decisions with you, takes the dimensions and sends a detailed written bid rather than a range.

Follow up runs on a schedule so nothing sits: twenty-four hours, seventy-two hours, then one week. A signature and a deposit put the work on the calendar. If something is found once a wall or the ground is open, it is priced and agreed before it is built rather than appearing at the end.
