What counts as handyman work here

The handyman list is the work that a competent person with the right tools can finish inside a day, and it is the category most homeowners actually need most often. It covers:

• Light fixtures, including outlet and switch replacement
• Plumbing fixtures, including toilets
• Cabinet and door hardware
• Hanging TVs and home decor
• Building and installing garage storage
• Heavy lifting
• Playground and trampoline builds
• Pergola kit installation

If the job is bigger than that, it belongs in one of the other three categories and gets an on-site walkthrough instead. A cracked ceiling that needs texture matching is drywall work. A bathroom that needs the tile pulled is an interior remodel. Both are still OnCall, just quoted differently.

Why is handyman work priced flat instead of hourly?

Handyman work here is priced flat by the service rather than by the hour. Most handyman companies estimate how long a job will take and then bill against that estimate, which means the number you were told and the number you pay are two different numbers. Cory prices each service as one figure, so the amount you approve is the amount on the invoice.

The practical difference shows up on the jobs that go sideways. A toilet swap that turns into a corroded shutoff valve costs the same as the toilet swap you approved. On an hourly bill, that extra hour is yours. Flat rate moves the risk of the unexpected onto the contractor, which is where it belongs, because the contractor is the one who can estimate it.

It also removes the incentive nobody likes to talk about. When a company bills by the hour, working slowly is profitable. When the price is fixed, the only thing that pays is doing the job right the first time so nobody has to come back.

How do you get a price without a visit?

Send photos and a short description by text and a price comes back within 24 hours. No appointment, no waiting on a scheduling window for a job that takes an afternoon.

Photographs carry more information than most people expect. A picture of the wall behind the TV shows the stud spacing, the outlet position and whether there is a fireplace mantel in the way. A picture under the sink shows the valve type and the supply line. For the great majority of handyman work, that is enough to price the job accurately, and the walkthrough only exists to protect a contractor who has not looked closely at the photo.

When a photo genuinely is not enough, Cory will say so and schedule a look rather than quoting a number he would have to revise later.

What happens after you send it

Contact, then a price, then the work. The follow up runs on a schedule so nothing sits: twenty four hours, seventy two hours, then one week. You are not chasing anybody for an answer, and you are not being chased either.

Work that needs a permit is performed by licensed electrical, plumbing and HVAC trade partners. OnCall coordinates it as the general contractor so you are dealing with one company rather than three.

What OnCall does not do
